Atomic Speed Technology Explained

AST Explained OTNO Blog

Despite being a web-based solution, an IronOrbit Hosted Desktop performs better than a high-end, local desktop computer.

To some extent, this is just a matter of simple math: the amount of resources committed to each IronOrbit Hosted Virtual Desktop by our servers is enough to compensate for the relative slowness of network-delivered processing and storage. In addition, our servers are dedicated—each client receives his or her own physical server or servers and doesn’t share them with any our other clients—so each hosted desktop will always have enough resources to perform at its best. To further minimize the effects of network-based computing on the performance of our Hosted Desktops, we’ve set up our Hosted VDI platform so that keystrokes, mouse clicks, and the images that appear on the users’ screens are the only kinds of data being sent or received by our servers—all of our Hosted Desktops’ other data remains on and is processed by the hardware in our datacenters.

What sets our Hosted Desktops apart?

What truly sets our Hosted Desktops apart in terms of performance, however, is Atomic Speed Technology. Atomic Speed Technology is the combination of carefully-selected and intricately-refined protocols, best practices, and technologies that we use in the storage and network layers of our hosting architecture. One thing it does is it preemptively caches applications and data based upon each hosted desktop’s usage history. By pre-loading a hosted desktop’s most frequently-used applications and files, Atomic Speed Technology reduces the time it takes to launch an application or open a document and makes applications faster and more responsive.

Another feature of Atomic Speed Technology is its optimized, algorithmic-based routing of packets over the Local Area Network (LAN) and the Wide Area Network (WAN), which prevents our networks from being slowed down by bottlenecks and inefficiencies. This is also the reason why our Hosted Desktops are fast and responsive even when accessed over a low-bandwidth or overtaxed network.

In addition, Atomic Speed Technology uses Citrix HDX and Microsoft RemoteFX protocols to maximize the quality of the visual and audio components of our Hosted Virtual Desktops. As a result, IronOrbit Hosted Desktops look and sound better than any other hosted desktop solution.

Viewed as a whole, the benefits of Atomic Speed Technology, as well as those of the other performance-optimizing features of our Hosted VDIs, include:

  • Hosted desktops that don’t strain local networks or devices, but that are still as fast and responsive regardless of what network or device they are accessed from.
  • Applications that launch quickly and that are as responsive as an application installed on the hard drive of the user’s device.
  • Video and audio that look and sound as good as they would when viewed or listened to on any high-end desktop computer.

Businesses that sign up for our Hosted Desktops get an IT solution that’s as fast, responsive, and flexible as a physical desktop computer, but that’s also anywhere-accessible, secure, scalable, and includes 24x7x365 technical support and managed data backups.
